What's New?

November 2001

My Annual trek to the Colorado Plateau this year included return visits to a few favorite spots as well some new areas. I spent several days in Arches NP; in addition to all the usual locations there I visited an area called the 'Fiery Furnace' which is a permit only area with lots of maze-like narrow passages. In Zion NP I hiked the Virgin river with a wet suit. Explored Calf Creek Falls again. Devil's garden for the Metate Arch. I did end up going to Page, Az and Horseshoe Bend, upper Antelope canyon and my fifth visit to Coyote Buttes (this time avoiding 'The Wave' and exploring lesser visited areas).

I did a 15 mile, 2 day hike in Coyote Gulch. Walking with the 50+ pound pack wasn't that bad since the canyon is mostly flat but the climb out of the canyon via Crack-in-the-Wall requires a steep ascent of 700 vertical feet on a sandy path. Quite tiring!

Below are a few favorite images from the trip.
